T6.1 Camper Van Fog Light Retrofit with Scandinavian DRL
This T6.1 camper fog light retrofit was completed for a customer who wanted better visibility during tight turns and improved safety for cross-country travel. The project included factory-style cornering fog lights, Scandinavian DRL tail light coding, and a clever upgrade to the instrument cluster backlighting—making it visible even when the headlights are off.
Have you ever taken a sharp bend in the dark and wished your lights followed the turn? This customer did—which is why we retrofitted the factory fog light cornering function. The system activates the fog light on the turning side when cornering under 30 km/h, lighting up the path ahead without blinding oncoming traffic. It’s subtle, smart, and makes a big difference.
Clean, OEM-Level Finish
We wired the new fog lights directly through the Body Control Module (BCM), enabling full CANBUS communication for cornering light activation. The result? No error codes, no aftermarket switches—just factory-style functionality. The fog lights behave exactly like they would if installed at the factory, switching on dynamically when turning at slow speeds.
DRL Tail Lights for Safer Travel
To support smoother travel across Europe, we also activated Scandinavian DRL mode. This setting keeps the tail lights on with the daytime running lights, increasing rear visibility during the day—perfect for long drives through rain or tunnels. A great option if you’re planning trips through countries where rear DRLs are legally required.
Instrument Cluster Now Always Visible
Most T6.1 clusters only light up when the headlights are switched on. We’ve changed that. By rerouting the power to Terminal +15, the instrument cluster now illuminates with ignition—making it easier to read during overcast days or tunnels. It’s a small change that makes a big difference in usability.
Tested and Properly Coded
Before any physical work began, we performed a full diagnostic scan using ODIS and VCDS to verify module compatibility. After fitting, all coding was completed to OEM standards, including adaptations for the cornering logic, rear DRL function, and cluster illumination. No warning lights, no guesswork—just a clean, factory-like result.
