VW T5.1 087 BCM Retrofit and Steering Wheel Upgrade
VW T5.1 Cruise Control Fix – The 087 BCM Retrofit That Solves It All
Fixing a VW T5.1 cruise control issue isn’t always straightforward — especially when the stalk and wiring are already fitted but the system refuses to work. That was exactly the head-scratcher we solved on this job. 🚐💡
When Factory Parts Don’t Do the Job
Ever had something that looks factory-fitted… but just doesn’t function? This customer had the cruise stalk and loom already installed, yet cruise control was completely unresponsive. After running full diagnostics, we found the culprit — the van was running a 086 BCM, which doesn’t support cruise control.
The Right Module Makes All the Difference
We replaced the incorrect BCM with the correct 087 version — the one that supports cruise on the T5.1 platform. Once fitted, we coded it using VCDS and ODIS, enabling cruise control in both the CAN Gateway and the ECU. With all modules talking properly, the system came to life.
While We’re In There…
Since we were already working behind the airbag, we offered a retrimmed steering wheel to finish the job right. The old wheel was tired, so a new Nappa leather finish gave the cabin a fresh, premium feel — one that matched the upgraded functionality.
Why VAG Knowledge Matters
This wasn’t just a case of swapping parts. Retrofits like this need a deep understanding of system dependencies, correct module versions, and expert coding. It’s the kind of job most standard garages — or even some dealers — wouldn’t touch. That’s where VAG retrofit expertise comes into its own.
