VW Transporter T5.1 Cruise Control Retrofit with OEM BCM

VW T5.1 cruise control retrofit with OEM BCM upgrade – done the right way

Cruise control now sorted on this VW Transporter T5.1 — and it’s all running through a freshly upgraded OEM BCM. 🛠️🚐 We carried out this VW T5.1 cruise control retrofit using 100% genuine parts, supplied by Alex himself. From wiring to coding and everything in between, we made sure the system performs exactly like it would from the factory.

VW T5.1 cruise control retrofit with genuine BCM coded

Ever wish your van would just hold its speed on the motorway without constant pedal pressure? Alex did. That’s why he brought in his Transporter T5.1 along with a factory cruise control kit and a 7H0 937 087 OEM Body Control Module. We handled the full installation, including wiring into the correct terminals, adapting the clockspring system, and performing full software coding and key learning for the new BCM. One click of the stalk now sets the speed like it was always built to do it.

Clean, OEM-Level Finish

This job wasn’t about sticking in a switch and hoping for the best. We correctly installed the new stalk unit, upgraded the BCM to support cruise control logic, and used proper TPA pins and wiring routes. Every connection is routed through factory looms, wrapped in Tesa tape, and secured with OEM clips. The result? You’d never know any wiring was added—it looks like VW built it that way.

Tested, Paired, and Coded

Once installed, we used ODIS and VCDS to code the new BCM, activating the cruise control function in the ECU and confirming CANBUS communication with the steering column module. The keys were also re-paired to the BCM to ensure full immobiliser functionality. As always, we ran a full system scan to verify zero faults. No warning lights, no glitches—just smooth, factory-spec operation.

Why BCM Matters

Many early T5.1s shipped with low-spec BCMs that lack support for advanced features. Upgrading the BCM isn’t just about enabling cruise—it’s essential for compatibility. With the 7H0 937 087 module installed and coded, the van is now ready for future upgrades too, like auto lights, rain sensors, and more. This retrofit lays the groundwork for full vag retrofits down the line.

Expertise Makes the Difference

Installing cruise control on a VW T5.1 isn’t just about plugging in a stalk. It involves understanding the vehicle’s wiring architecture, knowing which control modules support what, and having the tools to code and adapt everything properly. That’s why we specialise in vag retrofits—from Transporters to Audis—and why every retrofit we complete is tested, coded, and ready for the road.
