Ever sat in a classic kit car and thought, “Where would a stereo even go?” That’s exactly what we asked ourselves when this Cobra replica rolled into the bay. The client wanted a clean, period-style look—but with a sound system that could rival anything we’ve done on modern VAG retrofits.
Creative Audio Integration
This DAX Cobra JL audio upgrade demanded a full rethink of how we implement sound systems in tight spaces. No dash cutouts, no obvious speaker locations—just raw fibreglass and a minimalist interior. We installed a JL Audio Bluetooth system with no head unit, controlled entirely from the driver’s phone for a discreet, wire-free solution.
Custom-Made Components
To make room for JL’s ultra-slim speakers, we 3D-printed bespoke pods and mounted them in brand-new door cards we built from scratch. While we were at it, we added matching door pockets—because who says you can’t have functionality in a Cobra? The final pieces were wrapped in an Alcantara-style suede for a smart, tactile finish that’s both modern and period-correct.
Power Behind the Panels
Driving the audio is an Alpine compact amplifier neatly tucked behind the dash area, feeding those JL speakers with clean, crisp output. And yes, it sounds incredible. The bass is tight, vocals are clear, and even with the rumble of a V8, the system holds its own.
Smart, Stealthy Results
This wasn’t just an install—it was a full design and fabrication project. From speaker placement to door card shaping and final trim, every detail had to be measured, tested, tweaked… and then tweaked again. The final result looks like it could have come from the factory in the ’60s—if the factory had Bluetooth and CNC printers. 🛠️🎶
