DAX Cobra Custom Audio Installation with Alpine and JL Audio
Fitting a full audio system into a 1968 DAX Cobra Replica meant starting from scratch—there just wasn’t anywhere to put a stereo or speakers without some serious custom work. 🚗🔧
Ever wondered how to fit modern audio into a car that’s got less tech than a toaster? That was the challenge with this DAX Cobra custom audio installation—a fibreglass shell, no dash space, and no factory cutouts meant we had to get creative from the ground up.
Custom Audio from Scratch
There was no existing interior to work with—so we fabricated brand-new door cards from scratch. These were designed to house 3D-printed speaker pods, which we mapped for a snug fit to the Cobra’s contours. Each pod holds a JL Audio C2-650x coaxial speaker, with wiring routed neatly through the doors and chassis to avoid any exposed cabling.
Powerful Compact Amplifier
Powering the sound is an Alpine KT-450 compact amplifier, discreetly mounted under the driver’s seat. This four-channel amp delivers clean, controlled audio performance, and thanks to its small footprint, it doesn’t take up any valuable cabin space—a must in a Cobra replica where every inch counts.
Bluetooth and Charging Integration
Rather than clutter the dash with a head unit, we opted for a JL Audio MBT-RXV Bluetooth receiver. It’s hidden, wireless, and controlled directly from the driver’s phone—keeping the period look intact while offering modern convenience. We also added a 12V power socket with a dual USB adapter, so you can keep your phone topped up while streaming your favourite road trip playlist. ⚡🎶
Premium Finishing Touches
We wrapped the new door cards in black Alcantara for a refined, tactile finish that feels right at home in a performance replica. The pockets are lined with soft-touch 4-way stretch carpet—durable, flexible, and smart. Every stitch, cut, and panel was tailored for this exact shell, ensuring a finish that looks like it could’ve come from a factory—if the factory had Bluetooth and 3D printers. 🛠️
