Recent VW Transporter T6 & T6.1 Upgrades: Controls, Lighting, and Gearbox Solutions
At Professional Retrofits Limited, we recently completed a series of advanced upgrades and repairs on VW Transporter T6 and T6.1 models. Each project was tailored to solve a specific challenge—whether improving driving comfort, boosting safety, or restoring critical functionality. Below, we break down the technical details and highlight the key benefit of each retrofit, complete with direct links to our Facebook posts and original project images.
VW Transporter T6: DSG Multifunction Steering Wheel, Integrated Cruise Control & Ghost 2 Immobiliser
This VW Transporter T6 received a comprehensive upgrade focused on both driving convenience and security. We installed a DSG multifunction steering wheel, allowing the driver to manage gear selection and cruise control directly from the wheel—eliminating the need for separate stalks or switches. The cruise control system was fully integrated, providing seamless operation for long journeys. As a final touch, we fitted a Ghost 2 immobiliser, delivering advanced protection against key cloning and relay theft. All wiring and coding were handled in-house to ensure flawless system integration.
- DSG multifunction steering wheel fitted for enhanced control
- Cruise control activated via steering wheel buttons—no additional stalks required
- Ghost 2 immobiliser installed for silent, undetectable security
- All electrical work and coding completed for a true factory-level finish
Key benefit: Combined driving comfort and robust security, all with a factory-style integration.

VW T6.1: OEM Fog Light Retrofit with BCM Integration and Cornering Light Activation
We brought this VW T6.1’s front fog lights up to full OEM standard by wiring them through the Body Control Module (BCM) and applying the correct coding for factory-level operation. This method enabled the cornering light function, which activates the fog lights when turning at low speeds—significantly improving visibility on bends. By avoiding basic switch-only installs, we ensured the system was safe, reliable, and fully integrated with the van’s electronics.
- Fog lights wired via BCM for complete system integration
- Factory coding applied for genuine operation
- Cornering light function enabled for enhanced safety
- Eliminated risks associated with aftermarket switch-only solutions
Key benefit: Superior night-time visibility and safety, thanks to proper OEM integration and cornering lights.

VW T6.1 California: DSG Selector Replacement to Resolve “Leave in P” Error
This VW T6.1 California was suffering from the persistent “Leave in P” DSG selector error, traced to a failed microswitch inside the selector unit. Since the faulty switch could not be replaced individually, we carried out a complete DSG selector replacement to permanently resolve the issue. Our diagnosis confirmed that, while the error was inconvenient, it did not pose a critical risk to the gearbox. The new selector restored full function and eliminated the warning message, ensuring the van was back to reliable operation.
- Accurate fault diagnosis of DSG selector microswitch failure
- Full DSG selector unit replaced for dependable repair
- “Leave in P” error cleared and normal operation restored
- Professional fitting and system testing completed
Key benefit: Restored gearbox reliability and peace of mind, with a permanent fix for the “Leave in P” fault.
